Let the king of online charcoal reviews walk you thru the new KK 23" OTB Grill. This review has more detailed photos (130) than the Komodo Kamado website
All one has to do is take the time to look and follow this review and it becomes obvious that this is one extremely fine Kamado. They have spent a lot of effort in making this-- one truly refined unit and have used the very best materials they can find.
As for tiles falling off they are bedded in flexible insulating adhesive grout that moves with expansion and contraction and is good to 550 degrees. When the KK is heated to 400 degrees due to its insulating properties the outside temp is at the highest was 155 near the bottom of the dome lid. This design --tiles and expanding grout gets around the problem with some Kamados where the exterior glazing is crazed or webbed because it did not expand at the rate of the rest of the ceramic shell. In a way the glaze makes its own grout lines. If a tile does get shattered there is a repair kit.
I want one really bad. Hey life can at times be quite fair. As I see it i can get the same results with a $300 CharGriller Kamado--if not quite the same experience. Perhaps that is one way sex and Kamado cooking are similar.
Definitely a well designed and made cooker but there was a price increase a short while ago. The 19.5 tile is $2948 the pebble would be more. The 23 inch is from $4260 - $4480. Obviously there is a build quality difference but the finished product does not come out any better.

That is a fine looking cooker. To me it is more like a piece of fine furniture and I think I'd worry too much about it to wanna use it
