dessert entry: cherry vanilla dump cake

This is so easy anyone can do it. Cherry vanilla dump cake! Anyone that eats this will agree, it is good. It is so rich and sweet, mouth watering. This is something we do in the fire pit up on the mountain, decided I should do it on the CGK.

Ingrdients:

I'll let the photo speak for itself! Simple, easy to find.

I remove the center grill and set the pot on to get hot - circa 1875 CI cowboy bean pot.

See the curved bottom of the pot... it fits the CGK perfectly! (random freak of nature)

Two cans of cherries go in. These are all natural, ingredients are cherries, sugar and water.

Over that you dump 2 boxes of jiffy brand vanilla cake mix. Make it as even as you can. Then put one stick of butter sliced in to thin squares over the top. Add 1/2 cup of water gently over it.

Start time and temp - I did bring it up to 300... There is no lid for this pot so it helped the top brown just a little.

Checking it out while I dropped on some steak and corn:

Time and temp when pulled - sorry, no picture of the content....

The money shot. "Cherry Vanilla Dump Cake". This stuff is so rich and sweet! If I had some cool whip or ice cream it would have gone over it.

Cooked a t-bone and corn on the cob at the same time. Dinner also included homemade coleslaw made last night:

fresh chopped cabbage
un-filtered apple cider vinegar
helmans
sugar

Steak was done with EVOO, kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper.

philpom, my only supermarket in town doesn't carry the Jiffy cake mix. Any substitutes that you recommend. Thanks.

I believe a single "normal" sized box of Betty Crocker, Sure Fine or any other brand of yellow cake mix should work. The Jiffy boxes are small and that is why I use 2 of them.

Double check, looks like the Jiffy boxes are 9oz so you need roughly 18oz of mix.

preheated pan, diffuser in place, 300 degrees, about 1 hour. No lid on pan.

Check it after about 45 min - the cake should firm up and maybe even get a little hard/crispy on top

When I did mine, the dome temp was 300, but my Maverick was showing 350.

Wow! Just took it off and gave it a taste. Super good!
Thanks, philpom.
I'm seeing a variety of desserts here using other fillings like apples, peaches, blackberries, you name it.
I love it.

Hey! Glad it worked out for you, you are correct, almost any combination of filling and cake flavors can be used.

How did your crust do? A little crisp/crunchy on top and soft/gooey in the middle?

At an hour, my crust was pasty white. I let it go another 15 minutes and it browned up a bit and got some crust on top and a bit of goo in the middle.
I might could have gone longer, however.
Remember, I was using some other brand of cake mix. Duncan Hines or something.
I will have to try WW for the Jiffy brand.
But my wife took a bit and gave it a thumbs up. Now that's the seal of approval.
