Before reading this post I found the Akorn at the local Kroger (Fort Worth, Texas) for $165. Bought it, but after assembly found the dome had a large dent. Called Company and was told that unit has no warranty due to the discounted price, but should not have a problem in the operation of the unit.
Would it be that anyone who bought the discount unit from Kroger has no warranty?

That's not the answer I just received from Char-Griller. I purchased two Komado's at Kroger after a 4th of July 2012 clearance @ $149.00 each. I just sent a message to the warranty department and received a complete different answer than you did. In my view, a dent as bad as it is, really doesn't demonstrate a defective product just a damaged one.

Thanks to all of all you....

Thanks to Lowes, I became intrigued about the Akorn Komado Kooker as an economically-friendly option to purchasing a Big Green Egg. Thanks to the ManCaveMeals You Tube videos, I realized that this was a legitimate BBQ tool to consider for smoking, grilling, and baking. Thanks to this board, I saw that Krogers was selling these things on clearance here in Georgia for almost half what Lowes was selling them for at $300.00

Today (8/2/2012), I purchased the last Akorn Komado Kooker (with wood shelves and handles instead of plastic) for $197.00 at Krogers off of Bethelview Road in Cumming, GA. I am seasoning the grill now as I type, using the techniques provided by ManCaveMeals.

Thanks to you guys, my 79-year old Mum who lives down in central Arkansas just scored an Akorn from her (new) local Kroger megastore for US$165.00. She said she got one of the last two in Conway, AR (not sure if there are several locations). The neighbour kid is putting it together for her as I type.

Despite the litany of calls I'm now going to get on how to use the thing, I'm proud of her for diving into the world of charcoal with both feet. She said "Now son, can I make steaks taste like they do in the *good* steakhouses with this contraption? And what about those scallops I like?" Way to go Mum - she's already planning dinner! :D

Thanks for the tipoff about the bargain!

Cool story. Next adventure, have her connect to the internet and have her join a few BBQ forums.

Victoly, kamado get! :D

My patience paid off, new CGK for $165. Second to last one in town (other than the ones at Menards, which are still $300).

I checked all of the Kroger locations in the Terre Haute area with no luck. If anyone knows of other specific locations in Indiana that still have these in stock please let me know.

I would also be willing to buy from any of you in Indiana that has purchased multiples and are willing to sell one.

New member by the way... hello all... great resources here!

None of the Akorns have plastic shelves or handles. They are steel shelves and a painted wood handle.

There's a map of what states Kroger operates in, and under what banner, on this page: http://www.thekrogerco.com/operations/o ... ations.htm

In California, Kroger owns Ralphs, Food 4 Less, and Foods Co., if you have any of those in the area.

I have several Ralph's around me but I don't think I've ever seen them sell products like this there. I'll have to go and check again. Thanks!
