Auber Controllers

Postby Pwm99 » Mon Aug 06, 2012 1:11 pm

Just saw that Auber PID controllers are on sale (10% off) through Sept 3rd. So depending on your make/model that is about $14-$16 off the normal price. For my Akorn it would be $127.26.

Some people have all the luck. The sale started on Monday Aug 6. On Friday Aug 3 I was ready to go pick mine up but my wife had other plans and Auber Ind. isn't open on the weekend. So ihad was forced to wait until monday. After the rush hour traffic died down I jumped in the truck and went to pick mine up. Low and behold what did I find that was on sale?

EDIT: I will say this you don't need a PID Controller. Not one doubt in my mind that you need one and anyone that says you do is out of their ever loving mind. You also don't need AC in you home and car or centralized heat either. I can remember when they used to advertise cars with optional radio and heater.

What type of fan or air control valve are you using. My PID had too larger of a fan for a Kamado and would make it a blast furnace. No trouble with a long and slow except running needed to feed more fuel.

What's the make and model number? Is the voltage 120V AC? My PID is a 120V AC model.

Mine is this one:
Model # SYL-1614SYS-XLG

This one is the same thing without the adapter you don't need on a akorn
Model # SYL-1614SYS-W

Instructions not needed but this will work:

Open bottom vent
Place blower in vent
Close vent slide against blower

This is a video on installing an Auber controller. It is basically the same way it install on the AKORN.

Hello,
What are the results of using this Auber Controller? Is it worth the expense?
Thank You

If your fan is too big---then you need to put a restricting valve in to the set up--some have used ball valves.

I can not speak to other Kamados. If you are using it on the CGK AKorn you bend the flanges to fit at the ends and twist it into place and lock it with the air slide. If you have set it to the settings that were previously listed by Ken --then you will get --in my experience---+3 to -3 degrees off set temp---typically. This is no matter what you set the top vent at.

Hi Gary, I use an auber on my BSK and my Akorn all the time. While you should be able to hold the temperature all night on a kamado without the auber, it has really let me sleep at night. Typically it keeps the temp with in +- 5 degrees, I've ran it for 20 hours with out issue. I use it for brisket and pulled pork when I want sleep. Usually for ribs I wont use it unless I'm feeling lazy or it's cold out. All in all both of them were a great purchase.
